The strange week

Never try to install a major application on Friday the 13th when you're planning to leave for a conference the following day -- and particularly not if you've just finished watching the 1960s movie The Out of Towners. I did those things and the week that followed was "interesting" as in "may you live in interesting times."

Friday, May 13

Tried to install Adobe Creative Suite 2; all components except InDesign installed flawlessly. Five hours of work, but no InDesign.

Saturday, May 14

Flight to Milwaukee turned around and returned to Columbus after flying a bit less than halfway because of an oil pressure problem. The airline booked me on another airline, which got me to Kansas City 3 hours late instead of the 8 hours late it would have been on the same airline.

When I checked my e-mail after arriving, I found approxiately 50 messages (mostly in German) with links to various websites.

Sunday, May 15

Overnight I had received another 400 German messages (to webwonk@blinn.com and wtvn@blinn.com). I discontinued both addresses.

Monday, May 16

Elizabeth's favorite cat went to the vet with acute renal failure.

Corel World got underway and the next 3 days were filled with outstanding information and education.

Tuesday, May 17

Elizabeth's favorite cat had surgery.

Someone in Kansas City decided that he needed the license plate on my rental car more than I did.

Most of the leaves fell off an ash tree in out front yard.

Wednesday, May 18

Of the 500+ messages sent to clients from the office computer, approximately 100% bounced because of some still unknown problem.

Thursday, May 19

The flight from Kansas City to Milwaukee was uneventful, but after the 3½-hour layover, extended to 4 hours because of weather, the flight to Columbus was cancelled because of tornado warnings.

Power was out at the house.

I spent the night at a hotel in Milwaukee.

Storms in Columbus fried the uninterruptible power supply on my office computer.

Friday, May 20

Elizabeth's favorite cat died overnight.

The return trip to Columbus was uneventful.

TechByter Worldwide receives a small advertising payment for each new client that signs up with BlueHost but I would make the same recommendation even if the affiliate program didn't exist. (If you don't see a banner ad above and you would like to know more, this link takes you to BlueHost.)
