Amish Country

A day off from work on a sunny day in July took us to Holmes County, Ohio, the center Amish and Mennonite communities, where cheese is important. We visited two cheese factories. Between the two, they produce nearly 20,000 pounds of cheese per day, 5 days per week. Holmes, Knox, Tuscrawas, and Coshocton counties produce a lot of cheese. Excellent cheese. Better Swiss cheese, I think, than the Swiss cheese produced in Switzerland. Besides the cheese factories, we visited a working Amish farm and met the resident dogs, cats, mules (amazingly soft, by the way), horses, and people. We took a short ride in an Amish buggy, visited an Amish school, and in general had a delightful time.
