In memory of Sally BradleyThis week's program has been cancelled because of the untimely death of Joe's wife, Sally. In December of 1999, when I wrote about one of our cats who had died, Sally understood. She replied to my message in a touching and compassionate way that made it clear how precious she considered life. All life.
In 2003, when my older daughter was married, Sally was there, along with Joe, her husband, and Anastasia, their remarkably talented daughter. Not long after the wedding, Sally went to the hospital with an abdominal blockage and the doctors found something else they wanted to look at. That "something else" turned out to be a cancerous growth. Sally battled fiercely and bravely. Throughout the illness that eventually claimed her life, I heard from Sally several times -- sometimes talking hopefully about long-term plans, other times sharing news and pictures of Anastasia's many successes, and sometimes asking about my daughters, Liz and Kaydee. I worked for 8 weeks in Sally's place when she was on maternity leave following Anastasia's birth. I worked with Sally for several weeks when others were on vacation from WTVN. When I worked the Saturday morning news shift, Sally had the mid-day shift every third week and sometimes she'd talk about forensics and law. When she left WTVN and took a job with the Ohio Fire Marshall's office, she was delighted with the people and with the duties she was assigned to perform. Every time Sally's path crossed mine, she asked about the kids. She was the kind of person who really seemed to care what was going on in my life. In my children's lives. To Sally, Joe, and Anastaia -- I'm sorry that I couldn't do more. Let us know what you think. Write to:
